10 Questions for a Sunday

1 – What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
Lack of patience, I am very quick to judge. One of the reasons my word of the year is Kindness. So trying to be better.

2 – What is the trait you most deplore in others?
People being awful to each other and to animals.

3 – Describe yourself in three words
I am trustworthy, conscientious and reliable.

4 – What do you most dislike about your appearance?
I have acne scars which have faded a bit in time but I am sick of covering with makeup. The deeper emotional scars I have from the bullying are still somewhat there.

5 – What is your most unappealing habit?
I tend to interrupt people especially my husband, filling in their sentences with what I know will come next. Because I am rather psychic – and see number 1 above – impatient.

6 – If you could bring something extinct back to life, what would you choose?
The Dodo bird. It just seems really cute.

7 – Who is your celebrity crush?
I do have a thing for fair haired guys – Alexander Skarsgard does it for me. And I’m not THAT much older than he is right? He’s also the most amazing actor, he can be scary, sexy … well, this is 48:

8 – Which book are you ashamed not to have read?
Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen. But I have watched two movie versions. I like both Mr. Darcy’s. I really should also read Age of Innocence, by Edith Wharton.

9 – What is the worst thing anyone’s said to you?

“Go back to China, you’re taking all our jobs” The first blatant racist thing anyone ever said to me. It was 1986, I was in Vancouver for the World Expo. I was 21 years old, born and raised in Canada. It was a shock, and I felt so naive. Unfortunately almost 40 years later these awful sentiments still exist.

10 – What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
You won’t succeed unless you try.

How would you answer these questions? I would love to know!

  1. Trait I despise in myself: I am also impatient! I am also very blunt, which I don’t mean to come off as rude, but sometimes does.

Trait I deplore in others: I dislike tardiness and flakiness. Both seem disrespectful to me.

Three words to describe myself: Loyal, dependable, determined.

Dislike about my appearance: I don’t love my legs, even though they are strong. I look down at them and think “stumps!” Why can’t I have nice slim chicken legs like my mother?

Unappealing habit: I am also an interrupter! My colleague used to admonish me and tell me that that was NOT what he was about to say, and tell me to “let him finish.” Oops.

Celebrity crush: Brad Pitt. He has always been hot, but he has also aged well. Although your guy (who I had never heard of) is pretty nice too!

Thanks for playing along – I am glad I’m not the only one who interrupts people LOL…if I got a dollar for every time someone has asked me to “let them finish” I’d would be so rich 😉

What a fun list of questions, but hard and very revealing. You’re brave to answer them all so openly. Glad you have a thing for our Swedish actor number one, haha, me too.

And I’d bring the Dodo bird back too, I just feel sad every time I see a picture of him and am reminded that he is no longer. :-/

  3. What a mean racist comment. I am sorry you received that. People are just a “delight”.

I am with you on #5. Though according to the husband I am no psychic and get it wrong most times. But I am as well #1 so lets move on I know what you want to say.

I had to goole the dodo bird.

UGH. I remember being in Toronto once and a guy making a racist slur about Asians in Vancouver, and I was just drunk enough to give him a piece of my mind. What a jackass. I’m sorry our world is *still* this way.

Such honest answers! Count me in as one of the people who think you are brave for sharing these.

I hate how much you remember that racist comment from (does math) almost forty years ago. What we say to other human beings has such a lasting impact.

I like a Skarsgård actor but for me, it’ll be Bill!

Aww, thank you. I think my skin gets thicker and just don’t care as much the older I get; I’m finding that I’m being more authentic and being open takes less effort honestly.

That’s horrible. I’m sorry someone said that to you. How ignorant and insensitive. Awful.

I’m not doing these in order: my bad habit – I tend to run late – I try to get ‘one more thing’ done and that doesn’t always end well. And it’s easy to change, or so it seems.

Most disliked trait about myself, I’d say my temper. What can I say, I’m Irish? ha ha. Really, I have little patience for people who irritate me and I’m not great about hiding it. Maybe this is more than one bad trait? Our youngest foster daughter is a button pusher and I really want to see past her nonsense, but IT’S so hard.

In others the thing I dislike the most is egotistical or know it all types. To that I say, Get over yourself.

The think I dislike about my appearance is my very thin hair. I had celiac disease for years before anyone figured it out. I wasn’t absorbing my nutrients and my hair loss is attributed to that. It won’t come back. 😦

    Celebrity crush: Hugh Grant.

I think life has taught me not to sweat the small stuff and to lean into my faith.

I don’t know which book I should be embarrassed not to have read, but there are many as I was never a big bookworm.

Worst thing someone has ever said to me? Um, probably when I suggested that the adults in the family not exchange gifts with one another at Christmas anymore (who needs another thing to shop for and Coach’s side switched to just God child gifts and it made so much sense), and my older sister asked, “Why are you such a b*tch?” Yeah, we’re not close.

Thanks for playing along! I like Hugh Grant too..his newer roles are creepy, he keeps getting better as an actor I find. I agree with you on the Christmas gifts, we made that suggestion long ago to just get for the kids. Some folks were grumpy about that too, honestly we didn’t need more stuff, and the stuff we were given we ended up donating or throwing out anyway, unfortunately.

I might have to steal this for a post idea!

I’m sorry you had to deal with such a racist comment, and for it to happen in your early twenties. Ugh. People suck.

The lack of patience can be my kryptonite, too. I wish I had more patience!

Oh, I love these random questionnaires. So fun. Although I am appalled someone said that to you about going back to China… people are terrible. Truly.

Here are some of my answers:

    Trait I despise in myself:

Trait I deplore in others: I don’t like flakiness. If you say you do something, I expect you to do it.

Three words that describe myself: Loyal, organized, detail-oriented.

Dislike about my appearance: I wish I had thicker hair.

Unappealing habit: I am always multi-tasking. Too much sometimes.

    Celebrity crush: Ryan Reynolds.
