Three Things Thursday -Podcasts

So many podcasts, so little time. Here are three that I keep on rotation:

  1. Q with Tom Power

I am so Canadian in this regard. Our national broadcaster, CBC, has the best programming both on Television and radio, and online. Q features the most interesting interviews, with musicians, artists, pop culture and cultural icons, Tom Power is one of the best interviewers, he has a lovely approach, a warm Newfoundlander persona – he’s a musician and just became a new dad. He’s had this gig since 2016, and I’m a huge fan.

The podcast interviews are also posted on YouTube!

2. The Readout Loud

I started following this podcast a few years ago at the recommendation of a work friend.

The content was never as dramatic as it has been since the beginning of this year, with the new administration in the US. It’s like a miniseries now, with all the twists and turns in biotech, government, science and business. Informative and attainable.

3. Good Hang with Amy Poehler

I was a big fan of Smartless during Covid – I’ve find it less interesting these days, especially now that we have hilarious Amy Poehler with her own podcast. I love her, she’s great with guests, she would be an amazing BFF to hang out with.

Also on YouTube! Her interview with Mariska Hargitay was such fun!

Honorable mentions:

WTF with Marc Maron – this OG of podcasts, wrapped up recently with the final interview with Barack Obama. A fitting bow on a masterpiece of 16 years of programming.

Mel Robbins Podcast – for some real inspiration and pick me ups.

Any recommendations? What do you listen to would love to know!

Oh how I wish I were more into podcasts! Once in a while I can get into them, but I always ditch them in favor of audiobooks.

  2. I’ve been listening to a daily rosary podcast since covid, and I’ve never figured out how to work other podcasts into my listening life. I think part of the problem is I wasn’t sure where to start and I felt sort of overwhelmed by the options. Also, I felt like starting a podcast after it had been around for years might leave me feeling like I’d missed out. Then! I stumbled onto Good Hang. I think my phone started playing it once when my rosary was ending. Not sure why, because two very different things, but hooray. I love, love, love Amy Poehler. We’re the same age and he was in Chicago after college (I was in the burbs but I went into the city sometimes), and I feel like we’re long lost friends. I promise I have no intention of stalking her. Anyway, the other thing that’s working for me there is that her podcast just started not too long ago and I’m able to go back and listen to the start of it. I feel like I’m a founding member or something. I’m glad you are enjoying it too. She recently had Rachel Dratch and they referenced Amy’s first podcase and Rachel was on that one, and I laughed along because I’d listened to that first one too.

Holy long comment, but you’re speaking my language.

    • she was in Chicago, not he. I’m blaming my excited typing hands for that typo.

I mostly listen to comedy and true crime. I am resentful of celebrity podcasts and refuse to listen on principle.
