Friday Five

I need a prompt today – let’s look at five kitchen essentials:

1. My new Coffee Bean Burr Grinder – it is indeed the best gadget EVER! I can’t believe I didn’t get one until I grew up into my late 50’s . There’s nothing like a cup of coffee made from fresh grounds. Perfect way to start the morning.

2. My kettle – also beverage related. we have a cupboard full of all sorts of black teas (Lipton Yellow label, Red Rose, Stash, Twinings), Chai’s and also Herbal teas, like Lemon and Ginger, Orange raspberry, Camomile, Jasmine. Turmeric is in there somewhere too.

3. The Microwave – bad habit, sometimes I take too long to get to dinner, end up warming the food up because I’ve waited too long. Or I take too long to drink my coffee, and it needs a quick zap. We love leftovers, so our microwave is a major essential.

4. Coffee maker – we’ve had this Braun coffee maker for years. I think it’s our second, actually. Drip coffee is our favourite. We do have French press Bodum, but we never use it. Too lazy I guess.

5. The dishwasher – even when it’s just the two of us, it’s an imperative!

  1. I don’t drink coffee and Coach finally admitted that he’d started drinking coffee. He brought home a coffee maker from work. It takes up space on my kitchen counter and I don’t love it, but whatever. I could not live without my microwave or my dishwashers – yep, we have two.

I could not live without a microwave. My friend didn’t have a working microwave for like a year and when she shared that with me she laughed so hard at the look on my face (utter horror). She still brings it up to this day! I just couldn’t fathom not getting a new microwave for that long. (The broken one was “built in,” so a bigger pain to fix/replace, but I still would have bought a small countertop microwave in the interim.) I also love having a dishwasher. Our house didn’t have one, and we bought one and got it installed immediately. It was the only “upgrade” we performed on our house when we bought it!

I remember years ago I visited my sister when she lived in Vancouver with her husband, and he did not believe in microwaves. I was astounded and bereft ;)! well so many years later, they do indeed now have a microwave – even one at their work because they own their own company now. I have to have it or my beverages will alway be cold!

Oh, you invested well – a burr grinder is even superior to most other coffee grinders! Nice choice!
I have a BRAUN coffee maker, too. Which model do you have?

I live alone and could not live without my dishwasher either! And my microwave. When I moved into an apartment back in 2016, there wasn’t a microwave and I lasted only a few weeks before I *had* to get one!
